Visual Art – Montréal
Hello everyone! My name is Asil Rashid. Welcome to The Bountiful Now, an art shop (named after my blog) and my philosophy of enjoying the bounty of the present moment. I began my art journey a few years ago as a way to heal myself from post partum depression when my daughter was a year and half old. Having never picked up a paint brush in my life (except for my high school art class), I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I took to it. Art became my escape, my medicine, my path out of the darkness of depression. And while I don't paint every single day due to the demands of motherhood and life in general, art opened up a whole world of creativity I never thought that I would have access to. Being an environmental consultant for the majority of my career, the natural world figures prominently in my work; from florals to landscapes to seascapes, but also a Frida portrait here and there and whatever strikes my fancy at any given moment. I love incorporating lots of color into my paintings but I've also been known to paint muted monochrome pieces. I love dynamic brushstrokes in the style of the impressionists and lots of texture but I also love those smooth strokes as well. My mediums of choice are acrylic and watercolor and I'm currently dabbling in oils. I often create watercolor and mixed media pieces with brush lettering based on original quotes from my poems.
