Lily Curley (www.adventuresinlilyland.com) is a NOVA based artist specialized in watercolor, graphite, and collage techniques. Each piece of Lily's work is created using several layers of color and blending of mediums. Pairing clean lines and defined shading with more fluid, even messy splashes of color is a common technical theme. Her art is heavily influenced by current events, media, her off beat sense of humor, personal experiences and interests, and important art movements such as Bohemianism, Art Nouveau, and Lowbrow Surrealism. As an only child in a military family, she moved often throughout the United States. Despite this, every house had an room converted into an art studio for her mother, a ceramic artist. Since she can remember, she was always encouraged to embrace her creativity, and furthered her art education in college, recieving a bachelor's degree in Fine Art/Pre-Art Therapy at Marymount University. With her art, Lily hopes to provoke feelings of whimsy, lightleartedness, and laughter. She enjoys pairing macabre images, dark humor, playful characters, and humourous text, with soft pastels or bright colors. Throughout her life, she has often turned to her art when feeling depressed or anxious. She strives to find solace for herself, and provide comfort to others by addressing hard topics with lighthearted sarcasm and colorful imagery. Her work has been shown at D.C. events such as Art All Night 2016, Artomatic in 2016, and has been featured on social media platforms by art supply companies such as Pentalic. Most recently, in November 2017, her work was featured in SMYAL's Annual Fall Brunch and Silent Auction. Currently she is working on several commissions, preparing for RAWartist's DC show in January 2018, and hoping to collaborate with contemporary art galleries in the future. Lily currently resides in Northern Virginia with her husband and two cats. ...more
