Arte By Charlotte

Visual Art – Washington, D.C.

Hello, my name is Charlotte and I am addicted to bright colors, absurd shapes, and paint under the fingernails. I am inspired by the Pattern and Decoration Movement of the 1970s and the folk art of my native South. Roosters are, for me, the perfect muse to explore compositions with bold colors and shapes that demand the viewers’ attention and express the peculiar personalities of chickens. Over the years, I’ve oscillated between my two great loves of art and health. I opted to go with a career in health, majoring in political science, completing two years at a prestigious public health nonprofit, and later achieving a Masters in Public Health. All the while I fought for, but did not prioritize, spare time for painting. From 2010 forward, I’ve put forth my best efforts to prioritize my artistic goals the way I do my public health career. I remain inspired by the bright and bold moments in our everyday lives, continually finding ways for my love of art and health to coexist. And I celebrate this journey through the ridiculous yet fascinating façade of the farm chicken.
