Photography – Toronto

I was born and raised, and still live in, the East York district of Toronto. My interest in photography began when I received a Vivitar® 110 pocket camera for my 17th birthday. With it, I snapped a terrible photo of Terry Fox. That was in 1981 on Danforth Avenue, during Terry’s ill-fated attempt to run across Canada and raise money for cancer research. I still have that now-faded, bad snapshot in a box somewhere in the basement. I’m proud to say that over the years, I became a much better photographer. Photography has always been part of my career. I’ve been a professional writer and photographer in journalism and communications since 1989. I started pursuing photography more artistically in 2008. I’ve been exhibiting at outdoor shows and in gallery exhibitions since 2012. I’m primarily self-taught over the course of my career. I’ve also studied through the New York Institute of Photography. I’m proud to say that in 2012, I graduated with a rarely given Award of Merit from the Dean of NYIP. And in the last three years, two images have done well in international competitions. One was published in the 2012 One Life international competition. And my avatar image — “downtown canyon,” recently made it into the exhibition catalogue of the 2015 Cities competition out of Argentina. I’m proud of that because it was a lucky shot — I happened to be crossing a skywalk at exactly the right time of the afternoon.
