Music – Gold Coast
At 20 years of age this Gold Coast artist writes music from the heart, set out to sonically and lyrically capture the emotions behind it. Often compared to the likes of Florence and The Machine, Lana del Rey and early MS MR, her music has been described as ‘relatable’ and ‘Hauntingly Beautiful’ by AAA Backstage and earned herself a Queensland Music Award nomination with just her second single. It’s relatable, and her angelic vocals are a pleasure to listen to.” - AAA Backstage Coming from a non-musical family it was a surprise to them when she won a school talent quest at aged 10 and found her love of singing, especially later when she combined this with her love of writing and poetry. Achieving humble success with her own acoustic tracks on the Gold Coast Reverbnation charts in the past, her new sound is more confident and sophisticated but the honesty to her lyrics remains the same. Having only one other single out released in a vastly different style, Athena Joy is still very early within her career but her new song ‘Blue’ hopes to move listeners with its mixture of dark undertones and lyrical sweetness. The song written at university using nothing but liquid eyeliner and scrap pieces of paper, is raw and emotional and hopes to be only a stepping stone in a much longer career and list of tracks to come.
