ChaCha N'Kole

Fashion – Philadelphia

Company Bio: ChaCha N’Kole is a Philadelphia based clothing line created by fashion and graphic designer Cha Cha N. Hudson. The name derived from a nick-name given to her by her late grandfather. In 2000 Cha Cha received her first sewing lesson from her Great Aunt, Yvonne, and was hooked on sewing ever since. She started taking sewing classes at a local sewing school for a few weeks, the summer before entering High School. There she learned how to use commercial patterns and basic home sewing machine techniques. In High School she was selected to organize all of the school fashion shows and creative programs. She started off cutting up t-shirts and re-creating jeans until she decided to challenge herself in the 10th grade when she started creating her own patterns using newspaper. In 2004 Cha Cha attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia majoring in Fashion Design. While there she became a sewing instructor for a local Middle School program called Art On Mind. There she taught children basic hand and machine sewing skills, beginner fashion illustration classes and color theory. She interned at Danine Devault Designs and D&D Racewear under the supervision of her former Art Institute instructor Danine Devault. Danine was so impressed with her work ethic that she promoted her to assistant designer for Danine Devault Designs and Web Marketing Manager for D&D Racewear. Along with working there she was hired as a production intern at Anna Sui Corporation in New York. During and after college her collections could be seen at most fashion and hair shows in the Tri-State area. In 2008 Cha Cha graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design. In 2009 ChaCha officially established her women’s clothing line and debuted at one of Philadelphia’s largest fashion shows in February of 2010, Philadelphia Fashion Week. The collection was a great success filled with black and white prints, colorful accents and graphic t-shirts stamped with an iconic cat, soon to be the face of the upcoming men’s line. With that collection, ChaCha N’Kole made the front page of the Philadelphia Inquirer and had her first spread in “Liberating Style” magazine. The response was so great that she was asked to come back that September to show her line again. The September show brought an even greater response and even more buzz especially with the introduction to her mens line, Distinguished by ChaCha N’Kole. This time not only did ChaCha N’Kole grace the pages of the Philadelphia Inquirer, but was featured on Essence.com, for Essence Magazine, runwayink.com, snapglowtv.com and other print and internet publications. After showing again that next February Cha Cha was given the prestigious honor of being the official designer for Miss Black Pennsylvania. ChaCha N’Kole is known for pushing boundaries with elaborate designs, striking silhouettes, clever concepts, dazzling prints and fine craftsmanship. These are the basic elements that create ChaCha N’Kole.
