Accessories – Philadelphia

There is a long, vibrant history behind chokers and pendants dating back centuries. Popular not only during the French revolution, but amongst the Chinese, the Egyptians, and they've managed to make their way back to fashion several times. My inspiration came in the mid-nineties when the beauty of Classic, Medieval and Renaissance fashion gave way to accessories for the plunging neckline. By combining different textures and introducing mesh to the mix, antiqued in silver or gold plating, as well as semi-precious stones, the pieces created a timeless feel. The mesh offered boldness without weight and dimension without bulk. Mesh pieces are the greatest alternative to leather cords and velvet ribbons. Simplicity and elegance at the same time. The name, Decollete Scarlet, was taken from the french word, décolleté, to bear one's shoulder. Since the intent was for these pendants and chokers to enhance a woman's neckline, it seemed a most appropriate name for a jewelry line – Karen Catalan, Designer
