Visual Art – Chicago

Fredrick O’neal Shockley is a classic realism painter, bound by the human figure. He produces works of historical truths, that are tastefully wrapped in “Gatsby-like” fashion. Often following the philosophy “Get their attention first and then teach them something;” with confident brush strokes, the Chicago native artist aims to make his voice heard through the canvas. His paintings may at first glance, appear provocative, but with closer observation, you’ll find a deeper meaning behind the beautifully painted scenes! He began his artistic journey as a Hip Hop dancer and choreographer in the 90s. Touring with major recording artist, during his downtime, he would sketch as a way of relaxing, and to fulfil this recurring inspiration to draw the human figure. Though always fascinated by art, he did not professionally pursue this ever growing need of visual expression until later in his life. Through natural progression from choreographing numerous live productions, producing, and promoting live shows became his main professional occupation. Often drawing people around him, he began to receive overwhelming encouragement to pursue art in much more of serious and professional manner. With no formal art education, he was blessed with commissioned portraits and a job as a concept artist for a leading automotive restoration company. Praised with the most appreciated compliments of his work; he was very self conscience and unconfident in his artwork. He decided to began his art education by attending LAAFA (Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art). He excelled at a rapid pace, and in a short time was chosen to study under personal apprenticeship of one of the top art teachers in the school, Sergio Sanchez. Learning figure construction and painting, he decided to broaden his education and was accepted into the Visual Development Program at the prestigious Academy Art University in San Francisco. The knowledge awarded to him by this education gave birth to a Designer of Visual Art!
