JOSEPH GREGOREVICH

Visual Art – New York - Brooklyn

The name Gregorevich comes from an Eastern European custom of representing direct descendants meaning Joseph son of Gregory. Born and raised in Coney Island Brooklyn, since childhood I have had a passion for creating, drawing and painting. My father as my first teacher and my mother as my support system, they gave me the building blocks and motivation to keep creating. Since then I have never stopped. Always searching out different skill sets and learning anyway I could, on my own and finding inspiration through others. As a self-taught artist I started creating artwork from my desire to present what I love in hopes of inspiring people. I took part in a program called Sing for Hope Pianos that opened my eyes to what art could do and why I want continue creating. Sing for hope is a charitable program that assigns a piano to be designed by an artist and then places the pianos throughout NYC’s parks and public spaces for anyone to play. After their set time in the public the instruments are donated permanently to a public school or community center. I participated 2 years in a row and plan to continue as many years as I can. As I uncover my identity as an artist I discover new reasons why I continue to create artwork, one of which being the exploration of self and human characteristics and the other being my desire to give back to our community. I have always loved music and want to create artwork that gives you the same chill and makes your mind wonder just as a great song does. My grandmother would say “Joseph you don’t paint pictures you write pictures”. In that it was the same as writing, I am telling a story through the images.
