Hilary Christensen

Visual Art – Austin

Hilary is a painter, hoarder, goodwill enthusiast, and mother of 2 boys. Her medium of choice is junk drawers. It all started harmlessly enough, when her youngest son broke toys as quickly as he picked them out. She started a drawer of his destruction, determined to repair some of the carnage. Legos left strewn about for people to step on were soon added, then dice and game pieces that didn\'t make their way back to the proper box. Finally, an idea emerged to do a portrait of her son using all the broken toys. It proved to be an addictive mix of painting and puzzle solving. The toys and materials pull you into a story within the artwork. Every piece she\'s completed has been a lesson in how to paint with found objects. She looks forward to exploring the idea of painting with junk even further. Hilary has a BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design. She and her family currently live in Austin, Texas where they live up to the city motto, \"Keep Austin Weird\".
