Visual Art – Vancouver

Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, I have been in love with creating visual art, particularily painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. In my highschool years, I was primarily focused on drawing, and my main source of inspiration was derived from the artwork I admired from comic books and graphic novels. There was something about the gestural poses of the figures and their dramatic characterization as well as the compositional arrangements and unique storytelling that caught my attention. It wasn\'t until my first year at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design in the spring of 2000 that painting took me in a radically new direction and became my first love and focus. The flexibility of the medium allowed me to combine the foundation I had begun with drawing with a more expressive use of space, colour and form. Furthermore, the study of modern art in the late 19th century and early 20th century had a profound influence on me. The opportunity to see the works of such artists as Rembrandt, Picasso, Toulouse-Lautrec, Michaelangelo, and Degas up close in various European galleries between 2006 and 2011 cemented my fascination with the craft and underscored my decision to pursue it. Since that time, the contemporary style of various street art, vintage rock posters, album covers, and interior murals have all had their part to play with where and how I find my inspiration
