KAILA Introducing Kaila. This Montreal-based songstress (full name Kaila Picard) recently exploded onto the scene with a self-titled mini-album showcasing a highly individual style she terms “bohemian disco.” Kaila fuses disco, soul, pop, and blues in refreshing fashion, and Kaila’s strong soulful voice frames songs that are by turns bold and contemplative. The EP is a collaboration between Kaila and the ace Toronto-based songwriting and production team of Greg Kavanagh (BKS, Wendy Lands) and Demetri James, who has worked with the likes of Davey Badiuk (Dragonette) and Jeff Dawson (Daniel Powter).Kaila is not afraid to let her self-described quirky and slightly dorky persona shine through her material and stage show. While studying jazz in Montreal, she dove into the city’s nightlife. “I grew a bad girl edge, and that experience gave me soul, and a dark place to write from,” she says. An artist to watch closely.
