Kit Stanley

Kit Stanley believes in movement for all bodies and lives by Midwest Nice. Originally from Madison, home to her alma mater—the University of Wisconsin, Kit graduated with a dual bachelor’s degree in Dance and Political science. There she started KICKSTANDcollaborative, her pickup collective of performers, artists, and entertainers, whose focus is art that promotes education, engagement, and community through disarming performance. Kit moved to NYC in 2012 to pursue her education at the Laban Institute for Movement Studies, graduating with a C.M.A. She uses this somatic work and scientific tools of analysis to teach invention and imagination within safe anatomical operation over virtuosity—creating thinking dancers, movers, & performers. Kit has begun showing work in New York, as well as dancing for various companies, but also works as a freelance creator. Most recently, THE SPACE at Katz’s, an internationally recognized pop-up arts space, and at nonprofit NYC theatre The TANK.
