Kelsey Lauren Schmitt graduated in 2012 from Maryland Institute College of Art earning a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Bachelor of Fine Arts. During her college years, she worked heavily in community service, leading multiple Art Therapy classes at the Women's Prison Projects of Baltimore, MD as well as working at interactive Art fairs for students with special needs. Directly after college, she took her first job as a Fine Arts teacher in Singapore where she taught Art to secondary school students for two years at Fajar Secondary School. During her time in Singapore, she reconstructed the school's Art curriculum to take on a holistic approach to learning and include more variety of Art materials, providing the students with the opportunity to work with ceramics, pastels, acrylic paint and recycled materials. After Singapore, she went on to create an Arts integrated English program and the very first Fine Arts Club at Shenzhen Senior High School, one of the top IB schools in China, which lead to multiple Art exhibitions that showcased student and faculty artworks. Outside of school, she organized Art Therapy events for adults, exploring the healing powers of play and creativity using clay, paint, and jewelry materials. After living and working in China for three years, she has now returned to the United States and is living in Delray Beach, FL where she is a practicing Artist, producing works that speak to the soul. Her paintings, prints and photography are playful and intuitive, expressing her inner spiritual and emotional journey through life. Influence from her travels throughout Asia, Europe and the USA can be found in her techniques and content. Kelsey Lauren prides herself on creating work that guides the viewer to a deeply reflective and explorative state, bringing the inside out and the outside in.
