Leonce Marie Wilkins was born in Greenville, North Carolina and studied dance at the age of five to eight in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Arriving back in the states at age nine she studied at Greenville Dance Company in Greenville, NC. After attending high school she studied dance at East Carolina University under Amanda Oakley, and Tommi Galaska. She received her degree in Contemporary Dance at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. While at UNCSA, she studied under Brenda Daniels, Sean Sullivan, Diane Markham, Trish Casey, Diego Schoch, and Susan McCullough and performed works by Diego Schoch “Migration”, Brenda Daniels “Boys and Girls/ Two Duets”, and Paul Taylors Summer Intensive of “Funny Papers” along with “Polaris”. Graduating in 2009 Leonce joined Poetic Xpressions Dance Company under the direction of Amanda Fair as a principal/ soloist. While dancing with PXDC Leonce guest appeared with VT Dance under the direction of Vincent Thomas. She performed an original work “witness” in 2010 at Balitmore, MD’s Theater Project. Currently Leonce is back in Charlotte, NC teaching dance for all ages. - “Dance as if no one is watching”
