Visual Art – Raleigh

Being an artist is a way of life. It is a devotional practice and lifelong commitment in the search of truths. My chosen devotion is understanding the human mind, it’s inner workings and our connection to the world around us. I explore how the environment makes an impact on our behavior and how our behavior impacts the environment in return. There is an underlying order to life and my work seeks to reveal it. I learn from first-hand experiences. I seek out physically and mentally challenging activities that infuse me with the moment. When the body and mind are in sync, we become connected with life. My curiosity is what drives my art making. Dedication, exploration, risk taking and action are needed for discovery, and I seek to discover. Living these aspects is a large part of my creative process. I experiment with different mediums and different ways of manipulating these mediums to create my compositions. More recently I have been creating compositions with smoke. The process I use combines my printmaking, sculpture and drawing skills. For the smoke drawings, I make a stencil of the basic form I want but allow the smoke to take on a form of its own. In this paradox between control and freedom I find a genuine expression in each work. The unifying of opposites, where order and chaos intertwine harmoniously, is alluring to me. It is only natural that my work replicates these same patterns. I invite viewers to contemplate the underlying order in all things and realize the power and responsibility we have to create our reality.
