Performing Art – New York - Brooklyn

Canadian dance artist Maddie Hanson is a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York City, accepted as an Early Admission Student at the age of 16. She trained at Soul Motion Integrated Movement Arts in Los Angeles under Irina and Robert Hamilton, as well as with Springboard Danse Montreal, Batsheva Dance Company Intensive, Soul Escape The Company Intensive, Movement Invention Project, Axis Connect NYC, The Dana Foglia Mentorship Program, Erica Sobol’s The gypsy project: LA, Arts Umbrella, and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance. She is a 2014 Monsters of Hip Hop Show Cast Alumnus, a 2012-2013 Intermediate Elite Protégé with The Pulse on Tour, and a member of immaBeast Company since 2013. Maddie is fortunate to have danced for Dana Foglia at Dancescape LA, Tony Testa at The Choreography Emmy Awards Reception and for his Franco Dragone submission, Chonique Sneed, Willdabeast Adams at Carnival LA, Avril Lavigne at the MMVA’s, and the Table of Silence 9/11 Tribute. Maddie has had the opportunity to work with Helen Simoneau (HS Dance), Katarzyna Skarpetowska, Stefanie Batten-Bland and Roy Assaf, as well as perform repertory by Martha Graham, José Limón, Mark Morris, Crystal Pite, Jiri Pokorny, and RUBBERBANDance Group. Her choreographic work has been presented in Juilliard’s Choreographic Workshops, and were selected for the Choreographic Honors Performances in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019. She was one of four artists chosen to create a new work as part of San Francisco Conservatory of Dance’s Summer Choreographic Residency 2017, which was re-performed at the APAP 2018 Conference in New York City. Maddie presented two pieces as part of the 2017 DUMBO Dance Festival, where she was awarded the 2017 DDF Award to present work at the 2018 Detroit City Dance Festival, as well as choreographed for the Composers and Choreographers Concert in Fall 2017 at The Juilliard School. Recently, she choreographed for the Historical Performance division at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, collaborated on a piece at Baryshnikov Arts Center as part of the Merce Cunningham Centennial, and choreographed for Juilliard’s 2019 Senior Production Concert. She was commissioned for MOVE(NYC)’s 2019 Young Professionals program, and is a recipient of the 2019 Dance Ontario Creative Partnership, to create and present a new work in January 2020 at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, Canada. Maddie is represented by MOI Artist Management in Toronto and by bloc LA in Los Angeles.
