Fashion – Perth

Hi! I'm Nicole. I'm a Fashion Designer just finishing my degree from Edith Cowan University. I also studied Visual Arts, and have a long history in performance, including acting, cabaret/vaudeville, and make up artisty. This background influences all of my work, giving it a theatricality and presence. I've always loved playing dress ups and creating a character or narrative with my looks, and I believe all the above interests help in forming the complete picture for my work. Some f the things I am interested in include performance, play, passion/intensity, attitude, sexuality, humour, the taboo, gesture, the feminine/masculine, and physical mark as a form of expression. I am also influenced by my background in theatre arts, camp and drag culture, rock music and subcultures from the 70’s through to the 90’s, youth culture, fables and fairy tales (and how the originals usually outwardly are fantastic and magical, but have underlying “grim” moral or ending), and gender codes in media representation. The colour and texture of material is quite important too, and I quite often find myself responding to the fabric quality to form a garment, rather than the other way around. This collection "Lust for Life" focuses on the 70's and 80"s rock influences, and the youth cultures such as Blitz and Club Kids that were inspired by them.
