Patrick Tiek

Visual Art – New Orleans

My name is Patrick Tiek. I am an artist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I would describe my art as mixed media, pop art with modern and vintage influences. My medium is acrylic paint on reclaimed wood canvases. I don\'t use the word canvas in the traditional sense either. Each canvas I build is one of a kind and is comprised of a vast assortment of wood pieces. I am constantly hunting for wood which comes from old homes, barns, and even the trash. I select each piece based on some intrinsic quality that it has, whether it be old chipped paint, an unusual shape, an interesting texture, or old rusty hardware. Once I have gathered the wood I then begin the process of reclaiming it which requires the removal of nails, loose paint, and any rotten or damaged sections. Having reclaimed the wood I can then begin putting the pieces together almost like a puzzle. I believe that my affinity to build my canvases of wood stems from my degree in Construction Management from LSU and having engineers for parents. WIth the canvas built I then begin to paint. I enjoy painting with bright colors and graphic images because of the contrast it provides to the natural aesthetic of the canvas. I also paint some more traditional Louisiana inspired works. I take on commissioned work as well. If you have a vision for something you would like to see in my style, don\'t hesitate to ask.
