Visual Art – Cleveland

My name is Pompii Carlisle McGowan. I was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, which is also where I currently reside. I am a Project Coordinator for SEAM Group, a facility services company, scheduling field technicians for infrared inspections across the country. But let me tell you, there’s so much more to me than just a 9 to 5. At a young age I realized my interests were in the creative arts. I enjoyed singing, dancing, drawing, and having a creative mind. I could moonwalk at age 5. I participated in art shows throughout grade school, sang in high school choir, and would doodle on my school notebooks, and loved being in talent shows. I was most likely to become famous in my high school yearbook. I’ve drawn tattoos for people. Designed and painted bedroom walls. I taught myself how to play the piano by ear. I joined the college choir at the University of Akron in 2010. That was a decade ago. Over the course of the years I spent much time pursuing and recording music, even participating in the hit tv show “American Idol.” Never really making a career out of music, and being a busy father led me to simply do music and art on the side for enjoyment with hopes of the right person seeing it. I have three children who I love dearly and are my top priority. Since having children, I have gained more of an interest in taking care of them rather than my own interests. In turn, I became a certified firefighter in 2016 which was valid for 3 years. I’ve gained a significant amount of skills, such as sales, marketing, management, etc. going from job to job looking for the place where I will thrive creatively and financially. Today I am more motivated than ever to get back to being creative. So much so that I am working on building a business for my art. I recently hosted a paint and sip event. Just last month I completed about 15 different paintings and have made a couple sales as well. I have a possible opportunity to paint a mural on the walls of a church for a daycare inside to the church. I am working on having more of an internet presence to network and open doors for more opportunities. What I paint- I consider myself a contemporary artist. I enjoy drawing, sketching, and painting. More recently I’ve been painting faces of many sorts, using colors that I feel stand out and make the character come alive, yes also making the work meaningful and thought provoking. Why I choose create art - since my childhood I’ve always viewed life and the world around me as a thing of beauty. I enjoy nature, bodybuilding, music and overall creativity. I believe that God has given me the talent to be expressive in a beautiful yet chaotic manner. What inspires me. What inspires me most is my family. I have two sons that are special needs and I have a daughter that I don’t see often. Being in a proper financial space for them is always the goal. More importantly, I always want them to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams. This is me leading by example. What is my goal. My goal is to build a reputable and financially sound business with a product desirable by those willing to push their minds and imaginations to the limit. I want to use my art to be expressive and to create work that is thought triggering in the present day and for years to come.
