Photography – St. Louis, MO

I use my collection of cameras the way painters use different brushes. I am intrigued by the way light is rendered by a camera/lens in general, and the way light is rendered by different cameras using different films in particular. I shoot primarily black and white because I grew up with family photos that were black and white, because that was how I learned to shoot, develop and print film, and because black and white decontextualizes the viewing experience. My photographs are almost exclusively full frame and in camera, with limited adjustment in either a wet or digital darkroom. I have had recent photographic work in Food Glorious Food at Art Saint Louis, Somerville Toy Camera Show (Boston) Curious Camera, Interpretations II at the Columbia Art League, Beyond the Lens at Framations Gallery, Under at the Influence at Art Saint Louis, Soulard Art Market\'s Urban Architecture II, MySLART\'s 33February Exhibition, Saans Gallery\'s The Holga Show and The Foundry Art Centre\'s Unrefined Light: Image-Making With Plastic Cameras (juried by Michelle Bates. I have an MFA in creative writing from University of Missouri-St. Louis. I have published award-winning short fiction and poetry in literary journals, including River Styx, Zoetrope All-Story, Missouri Writers\' Biennial, The Distillery, Blue Penny Quarterly, and Forest Park Review, among others. In 1996, the Riverfront Times named me \"St. Louis\' Most Under-appreciated Writer.” I have published more than 1,500 pieces of professional writing local, regional, and national publications. ...more
