Visual Art – Washington, D.C.

Since my early days, I’ve always had a strong passion for science. I believe I was drawn to biotechnology because I found it captivating that one could manipulate live organisms and genetic material, producing an entirely new life and perform new functions. It was the beauty of creation that drew me in towards that specific field. When I realized what I was genuinely passionate about, my love for creating entirely new things out of the unexpected, I was pulled towards a new direction. Something that was seen as just a hobby to others, is what drives me to wake up, explore, and create. The medium I choose to express my creativity is through graphic design, digital art, and creating soundscapes. I describe myself as born surrealist. I explore visual narratives in my digital designs and sound creation; translating ideas of a creative unconscious mind and transcending my own human expectations. I plan to pursue my passion for design and music while planting my personal touch into each creation. Good music and design is progressive, but also timeless, with no boundary of genre or style. Through surrealism, I create alternate realities where diverse thought and sentiment can exist without repercussions. It’s hard to ignore the fact that the world of graphic design has been completely revolutionized by digital technology, leaving little room for personal execution. For me, design is not just inputting information and code into a machine, it is an instinctive and intellectual exercise in problem-solving, never forgetting that innovative and effective design ideas are not born in isolation. To me, the internet is a tool, not a crutch. The world offers so much raw material, and I intend to capture this to compose something new. Differentiating from “shock and awe” tactics frequently seen in today’s art, hoping to manufacture controversy, I gravitate towards focusing on images that awaken a scope of human emotions and reasoning. We experience unforeseen circumstances - traumatic, yet treasured - that assess our emotional boundaries and open our eyes to the unembellished truth of existence. These events shape the person we become, and for me, sculpt the artist that is born. With these personal experiences, I have come to realize the artist I am, and the designer I determine to be. With this goal in mind, I am certain it can be achieved and foster prospective designers and artists of the 21st century. I see our uniqueness as reminders of what makes us different and at times an outcast. But we aren’t outcasts. We have to permit ourselves to believe such truth. What if we were to look in the mirror, and decide to perceive those differences as what makes us beautiful, rather than what makes us abnormal? We would ultimately free ourselves from quixotic expectations and lies of media-determined beauty. We would permit our differences and imperfections to be the bridges that connect us to one another, not divide us. There is a simplistic beauty in life itself. I keep this in mind, melting away repressive insecurities of my own beauty. Changing beauty culture will not happen overnight. But at this point in time, she hopes individuals can rely on themselves to honestly feel uniquely beautiful.
