Sissipahaw Leather Co.

Accessories – Raleigh

I was born to create. I just didn\'t know it until 2011. I spent too many years trying out too many professions going in and out of colleges without ever receiving a degree or satisfaction. Then a tragedy struck my life. One day someone told me I should try to channel my grief into creativity. So I sat down with an old box of leather and made myself a purse. I haven\'t stopped since. Creating is the only time I feel like I have control and focus. I truly feel that this is the path my life is meant to take. I chose the Native American style and the company name because I lived in a tiny village on the Haw River called Saxapahaw. This beautiful village was originally settled by the Sissipahaw natives and ever since I moved there from Raleigh I could feel their spirit in the river, the fields, the forests, and the wildlife. Not to mention the people in that village really seem to possess a very old and native spiritual quality. I want to honor the natives who settled there many years before me in the work that I create. Working with leather has been a very spiritual experience for me since day one. I strive to pour a little bit of my soul into each item that I create. I practice extreme focus and make sure every detail expresses the utmost quality. My standard for each piece is very high and I will not release an item unless it meets those standards.
