Visual Art – Seattle

Penny Laine is an emerging artist with an innovative style all her own. Her designs, wrought from industrial scrap metal, are shaped into evocative pieces that bridge strength and delicacy through modern shapes and rustic finishes. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Penny has lived in Texas, Colorado, California, Montana and Sydney, Australia. The strength and beauty of these varied landscapes is where she has drawn her inspiration that is reflected in her work. Penny now resides in Seattle, Washington, a befitting city that plays into the very essence of her designs: modern yet influenced by natural beauty. Having received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Design from the University of North Texas, Penny launched a successful career in graphic design. While the work was engaging she found herself dreaming of a more tactile expression for her art. As a result, in 2002 she taught herself to cut, weld, bend, distress and polish various types of metal. Just two years later with a functional studio space and gallery representation in Seattle, her dreams began to take shape. Penny’s iron creations combine both masculine and feminine energies in their expression of light, shadow and texture. Her free-standing sculptures and innovative wall pieces are inspired by the human form as well as figures from nature. The pieces have been described as bold yet soft, stunningly raw and compelling. In short, her art pieces are the perfect complement to any modern interior space. Visit my website: http://www.studiopennylaine.com
