Visual Art – Philadelphia

I am currently studying graphic design at The Art Institute of Philadelphia, with a desire to pursue an education in fine arts as well. I started drawing around the same time I started making mechanical pencils from regular wood lead pencils and old style spring push pens. I was eight and in third grade, about thirty-one years ago. There I received attention from a boy in class who was drawing hot rods. We would have competitions to see who could come back to school with the coolest designs. From there I started drawing mythological and mystical beings that most young girls are fancied with. My interest grew to plotting landscaping and gardens as well as drawing building floor plans, upon which I could busy myself for hours on end reworking in ideas as they grew. I found that I loved drawing faces the most. At first they were just from my imagination, then I found inspiration through people I saw. During the time I was growing up I was guaranteed to be drawing in most all my classes which many of my teachers from my youth can attest. I dabbled in Industrial art and Abstract design late in high school with our regular art teacher, as well as taking classes in drafting. I received numerous awards from college and county competitions, as well as Dremel for my Industrial art designs. I still like abstract art the best because of the freedom of expression. I love human features, the curves and contours of faces as well as individual items. It is this that I like to incorporate with abstract design for inspiration. The freedom of artistic expression is beautiful. I inspire to grow in the field, learning new techniques to incorporate into my style. I'm picking up where I left off and taking on my passion in art. It feels good to be following my dreams.
