The Genie

Taking a DJ approach to guitar, he is the creator of a live-looping method called \'scratch guitar\' and a unique brand of live-remixing called ‘g-mixing\'. Bringing together a hybrid of genres, he utilizes unconventional live production styles and original looping methods while manipulating dials on his pedals with his toes, producing uniquely mesmerizing performances. Born in Los Angeles and raised in San Francisco, he developed a passion for music at young age and began playing guitar with the aspiration of one day becoming a world renowned performer. Growing up, his worldview was greatly influenced by the fact that both of his parents were severely affected by the civil wars in El Salvador and Guatemala. Evolving into a young adult, his passion for music remained his artistic ambition while his commitment to social justice became his educational focus. He studied International Relations which led him to travel all over the world including doing volunteer work in Brazil, joining an international peace delegation to Palestine, and doing field research in Colombia as a graduate student. In 2002 he traveled to Montreal hoping to learn French and try out his live-looping show. He was soon discovered and signed to a record label, receiving Canadian distribution. Since that time he has been a full-time performer and is today considered one of the best live-looping innovators in the world.
