Unchecked ambition. Thunderous impact. Passionate social and political commentary. Within Rust formed in the suburbs of Vancouver in March 2012 with a sound that balances powerful dynamics, densely layered sonic richness, and direct emotion. Originally consisting of vocalist Nolen Scott, guitarist Matt Gage, bassist Taj Wheeler and drummer Lewis Scott. The band set to work immediately, releasing the ‘Born’ demo EP produced by Bill Buckingham and a slew of singles while honing their live chops with a relentless schedule of local gigs. After the departure of Wheeler and addition of bassist John Waldock, the group recorded the singles “The Taking” and b side “Rorschach” with Matthew Roach at Greenhouse Studios in 2013, later venturing on a summer tour of the US in 2014. The band is currently reinventing their identity with 2016 full length "Light and Shadow" (Produced by Travis Saunders and the band members themselves), a dense and morose concept album exploring a shattered psyche in a hollow and sombre future.
