Cameron watters
Visual Art – Memphis
Hey, my name is Cameron watters and I’m a self-taught artist from Memphis tn. I mainly focus on the mediums acrylic, graphite , and charcoal. Growing up I’ve always been labeled as the weird art kid that would sit in the back of class doodling. From early on I knew I was different, i just never fit in with any group, no one understood me and I was ok with that. All I needed was my little raggedy sketch book and an almost always dull pencil to get me through the day. As I grew older and improved in my skill and techniques I started selling some of my paintings through social media in 7th grade. Others started to notice my talent and invested time into make me a better artist. Since then I’ve accomplished a couple of achievements such as winning a gold, silver and honorable mention in scholastics in which I won third place in the middle division my first year, I won first place in the teens arts fest, I currently have my art displayed in the Memphis international airport and Shelby cares health center, and I’ve won the community resource award given to me in honor of Emmanuel Opoku from CAM( contemporary arts of Memphis). Winning the community resource award meant the world to me because i take pride being a respectful kind young man and having good character. CAM is an extraordinary program in which I am proud to be in fellowship with. CAM was founded by Derek fordjour in 2022 to mentor 25 young talented artists each year. During the intensive camp I took college course classes and was immersed into the art world gaining more knowledge, wisdom and companionship. With all that being said it wasn’t easy achieving as much as I have. With all my ap honors and extracurricular classes/ activities I’ve had to learn how to manage my time effectively. I never really thought about art as something to do as a living until I found them! Since then I’ve made it my life goal mention to become a successful artist. There is no plan B because art is my life. It’s my purpose. I believe that I was blessed with my talent in order to service the people and to help better the world in a creative and effective way. As an artist that is my duty.
