As a longstanding creator, DS possesses a profound understanding of the transformative impact of words, both written and spoken.As the founder of Press Play Poets, DS has curated diverse community-centered showcases, establishing platforms for emerging talents and seasoned artists alike.
From 2020 to 2023, DS held the prestigious role of Department Head of Poetry at The Raleigh Film and Art Festival. During his tenure, he introduced Voices 2 Reel, an initiative spotlighting the poetic potential of youth in Raleigh and its surroundings. Collaborating with a local videographer, DS showcased these talents through recorded performances during the festival's consecutive annual editions.
Notably, DS was honored to serve as a judge in the inaugural Paul Robeson Week Poetry competition at Rutgers University, sharing the panel with luminaries such as Susan Robeson, granddaughter of the legendary Paul Robeson.
Additionally, DS's short performance film, Kings, was an official selection of the 2022 Raleigh Film Festival, further showcasing his multifaceted talents and creative contributions. As a versatile talent, DS has contributed as a writer for SUAVV, a premier lifestyle magazine, conducted numerous poetic workshops, and has been featured in publications including EMBRACE, Voyager, Creative Rebel, Bold Journey, and The Triangle Downtowner Magazine.
Most recently, DS was honored as one of the featured poets at the 20th Annual Dodge Poetry Festival, the largest poetry festival in North America, which emanated from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center—a testament to his enduring influence and impact in the world of poetry.
