Kekeli Drum & Dance was founded by royal hartigan and Kwabena Boateng at UMass Dartmouth in 2000. Kwabena is a master artist from Ghana, West Africa and royal has been a dedicated student of various West African traditions for many decades. Kekeli is currently comprised of professional musicians and dancers who have dedicated much of their artistic lives to traditional West African music and dance. Alongside prominent Ghanaian artists, such as Koblavi Dogah, Emmanuel Attah Poku, Nani Agbeli, Emmanuel Agbeli, M.K. Titiati, Mohammed Alidu, and Sulley Imoro, Kekeli performs the music and dance of the Eʋe, Fɔ̃, Gã, Dagbamba, Asante, Dagara, Lobi, Igbo, and Yoruba peoples of West Africa. Our interactive performances welcome audience members onto the stage for an inspiring communal celebration. Prepare for a uniquely enriching experience of music, movement, and culture. Agoooo!
