Wild Woods Ceramics
Craft – Edmonton
Wild Woods Ceramics is a one man show, run by 19 year old Leo Lemke from Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton), Alberta. Leo is a primarily self-taught artist, having spent years developing skills in the traditional arts of sketch and painting. He initially began fostering a career in pottery in the Spring of 2020, alongside working to graduate from Victoria School in June of the same year.
He is inspired by dark, gothic aesthetics as well as a variety of flora and fauna, exploring the makeup of animals and their skeletal structure through illustrative sgraffito. The depiction of creatures represented through all stages of life and death seeks to show honesty about mortality, and has been described as peaceful and even inviting. His work could be summed up as spooky, warm and natural. “Wild Woods” aims to represent the mystery beyond the trees, and hopes to invoke a sense of wonder as to what one may find. Either way, we hope you’re left in awe.
