Visual Art – Los Angeles

Cara describes herself as Alaska grown, Great Plains inspired and California dreaming, based on the many places she has lived during her lifetime and how each geographic location has informed her work and perspective in one way or another. She is professionally trained in painting, drawing and visual art education, and has been drawing and creating since she was a young child, but she is also a serial dabbler in creative pursuits of varying media including collage, photography, printmaking, ceramic hand building and jewelry making using natural and found objects. Bright colors and playful interaction between sharp edges and layered textures create an almost cartoon-like quality to her acrylic works. Although Cara's paintings vary widely in specific subject matter, they always circle back to her enthusiasm for science and the living world, be it microscopic in scale, of human scale, or landscapes that capture the solitude and grandeur found on Mother Nature's expansive terrestrial canvas.
