Alyce Haliday McQueen

Photography – Long Beach

Alyce Haliday McQueen creates photographs and videos that focus on issues of femininity as defined by our current culture. Her work questions the stereotypes of women and the need for societal standards of beauty, sexuality, and domesticity. Alyce has received various awards for her work, including the Puffin Foundation project completion grant and the G.E.S.S graduate scholarship. Her work has been exhibited in galleries, alternative spaces, and film festivals. Originally from the Chicagoland area, Alyce studied dance and music before discovering photography in high school. She received her BFA in photography from Columbia College Chicago, and a MFA with a concentration in photography and video from California State University, Long Beach. Alyce is not only a visual artist, she is also a yoga instructor and an advocate for art education. Alyce lives and works in Long Beach and San Pedro, CA.
