Visual Art – San Francisco

I use the skills and knowledge I have gained, not only from my time as a ceramicist but also as a painter, to take clay and the inspiration from the human body when creating my ceramic sculptures and functional ware. Within my work there is a play between the functional ware and the figures portrayed on them, forcing visibility of different bodies with the use of everyday utilitarian objects. The figures are used to help people visualize feelings and difficult thoughts that might accompany these individuals that manifest themselves in physical twisting, turning, stretching, and pulling, however, these anxieties are paired with being placed on stable utilitarian vessels which is a representation of home. Having these figures that float and defy gravity, yet have tension by being pulled and twisted, being placed on something that is meant for containment and nourishment creates a paradox that inspires a dialog about uncomfortable issues.
