Visual Art – Pittsburgh

Andi Irwin is an abstract painter living and working in Pittsburgh. Her work accesses contemporary ways of communication in lushly brushed and rich surfaces. A third generation artist, Andi grew up in Manhattan, with the Metropolitan Museum of Art as her playground. The continuation of her education in art and design brought her to Carnegie Mellon. Highly regarded curator Vicky Clark selected Andi as a featured artist for Borelli Edwards Galleries latest undertaking be2. In her solo show she introduced her series of paintings in which app icons are embedded into her familiar fields of gestures and colors, yet conjuring up prehistoric pictographs and hieroglyphics. The simplicity of the everyday world adds an edge to the evocative nature of Irwin’s work, allowing viewers to impart their own meaning as the artist gently leads them to new insights.
