Performing Art – Houston

Over a course of almost two decades, Angela Olivia Guillory has planted many seeds throughout her journey as a multitalented artist. In 1996, Houston’s legendary Mahogany Café gave birth to Angie G. as she is infectiously known by her many fans. The poem,“Six months, No Less Than Three.” put Angela on the map and winning the grand prize of $1,500 in her first talent show where she competed against thirty other rap artist, as she was the only poet competing. Later, winning another talent show landed her a trip to New York to perform on the world famous Apollo stage. Recently, Angela was honored with an ICON Award, presented by local artistic platform, heArt&Soul. Angela has opened for international musical artists such as Le Nubians, Howard Hewitt, JillScott, Musiq Soulchild, Erykah Badu, and The Roots, just to name a few as the list goes on. Her recent spoken word musical arrangement titled, “Speaking in Fragments”, executes the multi-talented artist skills by arranging, producing, composing, and performing her recent poetic masterpieces along with displaying her talent as a pianist. In addition to her talent as a phenomenal poet, Angela is also a Visual Arts major at Houston Community College. Most recently her work was on display at Houston Community College Central Campus, Houston Community College Southeast Campus, Arts Alliance Clear Lake, Nave Museum, located in Victoria Texas and the Carver Community Cultural Center, located in San Antonio Texas.
