Ambika Thiagarajan

Visual Art – San Diego

A painter who also indulges in installation from time to time constantly searches for the true meaning of life and our purpose for existence which she sees as key components for her practice. She often believes that we are all simply a reflection of our minds and the little things we do to fill our empty voids up ultimately amount to nothing. This inturn triggers her insides to believe in the presence of an alternative meaning, a different understanding, an unfound reality which she strives to locate in her work. She has also been pursuing India’s most ancient classical dance called Bharata natyam for a number of years, since she was a child. She danced solo as a debutante on-stage, and graduated with a diploma (locally referred to as Arangetram) in 2015. She had exhibited paintings at Iba's Colleges Exhibit, in Hyderabad conducted by the Camlin Art Foundation, in Coimbatore under the Mrs.Barbara Sreenivasan Memorial Award for Fine Art, at a collage and assemblage show taken place at the Fox Building,MICA, as well as at the Post Baccalaureate exhibition at Space Camp. Her photograph for the title ‘Embracing Sisterhood’, conducted by Canstop, a cancer research organization, won the first prize. She also received the Proficiency Award for ‘outstanding Fine Arts student’ during her junior and senior years. She recently was presented with an 'Honorable Mention' award for one of her works at the Heart Gallery in San Marcos.
