Visual Art – Nashville

From an early age, artistic expression came natural to Ree, via coloring books and making paper dolls. It was ultimately her mother who would influence her to nurture her artistic abilities. She began attending Belmont University in the Fall of 2004, however her journey to becoming a painter was incidental, initially believing herself only to be a sketch artist. It wasn’t until her senior year in college, that her painting teacher challenged her to expand her abilities to painting. Her First body of work was a social experiment, addressing colorism and the perception of beauty concerning black women. She would ultimately graduate in May 2010 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts With an emphasis in Photography and Painting. Her inspiration comes from her love of African American culture as well merging her love of poetry into her work.
