Ashley Grenstone currently lives in Ottawa located on the traditional and rightful lands of the Alqonquin Nation. Born in Ottawa but raised in several territories across Turtle Island, Ashley is a mix of colonizer, Algonquin and Mi’kmaq. Though raised apart from her indigenous roots she is reclaiming it as well as she can. As a human rights advocate Ashley strives for 2-Spirit people; gender and sexuality rights; and, towards ending the usage of children in armed conflict. Her education includes a BA in Human Rights & Social Justice from Carleton University (June 2017); certification in safeTALK, ASIST training; and +3 years of design education at NSCAD University. As a professional artist her work has shown at ‘Queer Landscapes Queer Intersections’ in the John B Aird Gallery, TO; the online publication ‘These Pills Don’t Come In Our Colour’; and, the RAW:Ottawa ‘Ovation’ exhibition, to name a few. ...more
