Baba Olusegun Shaka

Baba Shaka was born in Newark New Jersey. He grew up watching the pulic art around the city and on television.Baba Shaka comes from a family of activist who dare to struggle and overcome the hard times of capitalistic and colonial mentality.His mother was an activist and union leader in the New Jersey postal workers struggle a true voice of the people.He found his voice working with various black nationalist and Pan Africanist groups.African and African Diaspora culture within the context of past, present and future the focus of much of his subject. While at Morehouse College Baba Shaka co-organized many protest rallys against police brutality education poverty racism and sexism. His artistic medium is pastel and paint. My passion is to connect the artistic world with the political and secret components of the physical world.He has served as chair of an Atlanta-based art group known as the Dark Tower Project that has produced a countless number of on campus art exhibits, fashion shows, comedy shows and concerts. He is also the co-founder of Afrikatalyst Art Collective a DC based visual arts group. Baba Shaka has worked in education for the past 7 years as an Art abd Social Studies teacher. Currently he teaches Art History in a public charter school in Washington DC.
