Performing Art – San Jose
Mario Barron is a dancer/drag artist from San Jose, CA. He was born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. As a child, he expressed himself through music, writing, and colorguard. It was not until he was eighteen years old that he took his first dance class at San Jose State University (SJSU), and from that point, he decided that dance was his main interest. While receiving his BFA in Dance Performance, Mario worked under the direction of Raphael Boumaila, exposing him to other amazing artists such as Doug Varone, Kyle Abraham, Mike Esperanza, and Kara Davis. Along with these opportunities, he performed at the American College Dance Association’s National Gala in Washington D.C., and at Jacob’s Pillow in Becket, MA. In addition to performing, Barron is passionate about creating work. He created works commissioned by the New Ballet School and Zohar Dance Company in 2018, and even received three awards for his choreography during his time at SJSU. Currently, Mario Barron is free-lance choreographing while recovering from a meniscal tear, creating works for SJSU, drag artists, and other community events. He is also the Program Coordinator for the longest running ballet program in San jose: San Jose Dance Theatre! Mario Barron is so thrilled to be included in the WellCraft Events Showcase!
