The idea that photography is a way to capture and store a split second in time has never really appealed to me. Instead of capturing, I\'ve always been interested in photography\'s potential to create. The idea that photography is a way to capture and store a split second in time has never really appealed to me. Instead of capturing, I\'ve always been interested in photography\'s potential to create. My photographic creations result from two contrasting approaches: filmic montage, and biological macrograpy. My macro photography is the fruitification of visual, scientific inquiry: through a process of dissection and scanning, I create detailed morphological studies revealing the interior structures of flora and fauna. My background in plant biology and neurological research informs these dissections; my passion for the organic structures and exploratory study invigorates my artistic productions. Alternatively, I create my landscape photos through a process of montage. Montage represents a systematic layering of time: I condense singular moments in order to form new moments that have never existed. Montage allows me to condense, pull, and extend my experiences, eventually finding their commonalities. In this way, I create visual artifacts. Some of my photos have appeared at the Woodstock Arts Gallery. A number of them have shown at San Francisco RAW. Others have appeared at Sleepscapes. A few have earned awards, including The Robert Savage Image Award, and the Sam Spanier Image Award. To learn more, visit www.camillerogine.com.
