Visual Art – Orange County

Carmem Gusmão is a Southern California-based artist deeply influenced by the indigenous Brazilian culture. Her works, which promote new concepts of abstract and contemporary art, have been featured around the world in different forms--from Brazilian singers’ album covers to European and American writers’ book covers. Her art is beyond decorative; it’s a balance between energy, beauty and vitality with the purpose to communicate truthful and abstract views of modern life. Her paintings are powerfully evocative, purposefully motley and abstract. They attempt to express feelings of a modern society, yet they are romantic. Her paintings mix different life experiences such as the time Gusmão lived in a tribe with Brazilian Indians. At that time, Gusmão was an advocate of that community, which was threatened by mercury explorers. That experience strengthened Gusmão’s sensitivity to natural elements such as the wind and water--two dominant themes in some of Gusmão’s work. In 2009, Gusmão’s work was featured in the Roots Installation at the Galleria Municipal de Los Angeles. In the same year, she was awarded the Brazilian Press Awards and had her work featured in the Miami Art Basel. It was then that she moved to Miami Beach. Her artwork is scattered in museums and art galleries worldwide. Gusmão made her mark at Fendi Casa 2014 and was exclusively invited by interiors designers Jessica Jager and Mirian Oliveira. In her loft in Miami, Gusmão set up her own studio, where she breathes and understands art as inseparable from everyday life, mixing color and shapes--a true reflection of her heart and soul. Now she's move back to California, where she will start a new chapter full of joy and energy. Her studio is located in Old town ,Temecula where the sun shines through the mist!
