Visual Art – Memphis

Have you ever noticed the prismatic beauty of oil slicked asphalt after a summer rain? Many people will stop in their tracks just to witness the steam rise from the sun baked surface and the display of color that magically appears in the oily residue. It means that there is a deep appreciation of aesthetic beauty even in the midst of a contaminated and chaotic environment. This sense of wonder, in whatever form it takes, acts as a liberating force against the mundane world we often find ourselves navigating. My work is an experiment in liberating beauty and wonder from a chaotic environment, and the ideas and emotions that lie behind it. Very rarely do I begin on a vacant canvas. Instead, anti-form techniques are applied for sense of chaos. One such technique I use with the intention of boldly establishing movement and rhythm is the well known pendulum art process. Despite that, neither abstract expressionism nor process art is my goal.
