Leticia J. Castillo was born and raised part of her life in Mexico City in 1987. When she turned 12 years old her family moved to Wisconsin. She received a B.F.A from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Her work includes mixed media, drawing, painting, printmaking, relief, watercolor, photography, and installation work. Consequentially, her work deals with issues surrounding. It explores her own personal and family journey to the US as well as incorporated other immigrant stories of distortion, discrimination, and the lack of acceptance in a country that is “not ours”. “We go through a constant fight every day just trying to learn a new language.” Most of her work is people of different ethnicities that identify every persons’ culture and traditions. The paint is applied in thin layers of oil paint making it translucent so you are able to see the colors or the text on the background. Leticia has received many awards including, among others, a Printmaking award, awarded for painting, was selected to publish in the Arts & Design Magazine at UW -Whitewater for Drawing & Illustration Category; presented at many exhibitions for her artwork at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater such as: The Best of the Best Exhibition; Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition; Whitewater Art Faculty & Students Art Exhibition.
