Visual Art – Toronto

Hi, I'm Cat! I'm a visual arts York university student, working towards an MFA. My current projects involve recycled objects that I collect, and then transform into paintings. I do this by arranging them together on a flat surface and then paint over them with acrylics, camouflaging and unifying them into one art piece. I like the idea of re-purposing and recycling objects, and using them for art. I even reuse old paint brushes, rags, and empty paint jars! In the past I have used old coffee cups, plastic containers and bags, egg cartons, and various other recyclable items, and have also used objects such as broken keyboards, instruments, old dolls and other children's toys, broken cellphones and other unusable electronics, old clothes - the list goes on! This way of creating is not only environmentally friendly, but it's also affordable because the sculptural canvases I construct are a medley of unwanted items that have been thrown away. I am a scavenger, a collector, and a lover of the earth, and have incorporated this part of me into my paintings.
