Chad Townson
Visual Art – New Orleans
Chad incorporates the beauty of nature and the advances of technology to create truly unique, one-of-a-kind pieces. His inspiration comes from the surrealist movement, particularly Salvador DalÍ. His work with wood depicts the love he has for enhancing its properties and outlining its magnificence by using fire as well as other tools. The complexity of the natural wood is juxtaposed with the sharp edges and flow of the metal he incorporates in each individual piece.
His creativity comes from childhood experiences and images. The tribal influences in his work come from many sources among these include Egyptian, Asia, Religion, Tattoos, Spanish and particularly his home state of Louisiana. Overall, his work has a strong, confident masculine perspective. He weaves a harmonious balance between the strength and hardness of the materials with the beauty and flow of nature.
