Visual Art – Nashville

Anthony ‘Chan’ Williams was born on a Air Force base in Sumter county South Carolina on May 22. 1972 to Lee E. Williams (mother) and James Williams (father) in which he would be the middle child to two other siblings. At an very juvenile age Chan began to form a love for art buy looking at the illustration and the vibrant color that jumped off the Dr. Seuss pages. In the third grade is when I began to understand that my talent for drawing and sketching was a bit above the rest of my peers. While waiting for the school bus to come and pick us up one evening, our teachers rounded us up in the lunch room and gave us books, a sheet of white type paper and some crayons and coloring pencils. The book had was a paper back Puff the Magic Dragon. After reading the book I realized that the center fold was a perfect layout of the dragon, so I began to draw an exact replica of the dragon. The buses finally made it to school and the teachers gathered all of the books and drawings. As I was packing my backpack the P.E. teacher called for me to come here, and so I did. She ask, “ Anthony, is this your drawing?” I replied, “yes it is.” Then she asked if I had copied it from the book by tracing it and I said “no ma’am I drew it myself.” She then took my paper and placed it on top of the illustration in the book and to her surprise it did not match. In shock, she said, “that’s amazing! You are a very talented artist!” At that time I did not know what an artist was. I just knew that I like to create with my hands. I knew at a very early age that I was gifted with certain artistic talent. As I reached my teen years I began to study different artistic style. From Warhol to Basquiat, to Michael Angelo and Pollock. All of these styles influence my work today. I love discovering different mediums as well as working which an array of canvas’ to express the feeling and emotion that I put in my art. I am a free thinker and I believe my art reflects that. My goals are to one day open up my own art studio in Nashville, Tn that will showcase the local art serge that has hit the ‘Music City’ in the past 5 years. I would also like my studio to be a viable contender for art collectors and buyers around the world.
