Colleen Dockstader

Visual Art – Toronto

Colleen Dockstader is a self-taught artist who has been painting for the last three years. She works predominantly in abstract painting but also enjoys sculpture. She is a scientific researcher and amateur boxer and brings art into both these disciplines whenever possible. Currently she runs the “Think Outside the Ring” Art Project for survivors of violence at the Toronto Newsgirl’s Boxing Gym. Her work has been shown locally at The Gardiner Museum, the Gladstone Hotel ArtBar, and many restaurants and cafes. Her work is grounded in the belief that humans have a basic need for connection: that relationships form the very foundation of personal growth and development. Her work depicts stages of both deep connection and unsettling disconnection; some pieces are more literal than others. Colleen works, and lives with her two children, in Toronto.
