Crystal MacClain

Visual Art – Denver

Moving from the Midwest to New York, Crystal explored the body and its internal processes, obtaining a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. The University of Cambridge hired her to perform next-level imaging of the brain and analyzing cellular behavior. Crystal continued pioneering advanced imaging in academic science as she moved back to the USA. Finally, emotions hidden during childhood came forth after a major car accident and subsequent hardship. Colors represent feelings, as do light, texture, and distortion. Searing images from her visual memory work through her hands, transferring emotions into paper or canvas with acrylic paints and mediums, which provide distinctive structure. Crystal faces the fear and terror born of regret, shame, and loneliness, in the hope that these representations encourage onlookers to recognize and confront their own internal struggles.
